Wikipedia has announced to hold a series of “edit-a-thons” to encourage people to add content to the site about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
An “edit-a-thon” is a workshop where people are trained in how to edit the Wikipedia and add content to it, usually focussing on a particular topic.
The programme will run under “Wiki Loves Pride 2014” campaign.
Aim to expand and improve LGBT-related content across Wikimedia projects.
In other words, the aims of Wiki Loves Pride will be to increase the number of people and perspectives contributing to LGBT information on the Wikipedia site. There are around 11 language option in which the details can be edited.
The activities of Wiki Loves Pride are focused on June and October, traditionally the months when lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities around the world celebrate LGBT culture and history.
The series will begin on 19th July in Bangalore and Delhi by creating a forum of community. The entry is open for all to participate.
