Indian boxing legend MC Mary Kom won her fifth Asian Boxing Championship gold medal by defeating Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi in the summit clash.
The five-time world champion and Olympic bronze-medalist won in a unanimous 5-0 verdict.
Both boxers started the first round looking to attack and get an early lead.
Mary Kom landed a number of blows but Kim didn’t back down and got a few punches of her own before the round ended.
The Manipuri scored for her ringcraft, which included some fine footwork to outpace Hyang Mi at crucial junctures.
The second and third round was less intense, as the Indian legend took her time before picking her moment to strike.
This was the first time in five years that Mary Kom returned to her favorite 48-kg category and emerged victorious.
It was her first international gold medal since the 2014 Asian Games and her first medal in more than a year.
India’s Sonia Lather (57kg) will also feature in a finals bout later in the day.
