This festival is celebrated in various parts of Indian States of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Udaipur, Rajasthan is main attraction of foreign tourists for Gangaur festival.
The festival start on the first day of Chaitra (the day following Holi) and continues for 16 days.
Gangaur festival celebrates the companionship of Hindu Deities Shiva and Parvati. It is believed that Parvati returned to her maternal home during Gangaur on the last day escorted by lord Shiva.
This festival symbolises this event as Saubhagya (Marital bliss)
The unmarried women worship goddess Parvati in this festival for being blessed with good husband, while married women do so for the welfare, health and long life of their husband and happy married life.
