Smoking banned in Public Transport Vehicles: Assam

On consideration of the eve of World no Tobacco day, the new BJP government in the Assam has banned smoking in all of the public transport vehicles on Monday. The same order for this effect was being issued by the Commissioner of Transport.

It has said that it would be implemented with an immediate effect for ensuring cleaner environment and providing better quality of air for the public health. The required penal action for the same under the law would be initiated against the defaulters, according to the press release by the Commissioner of Transport.

Order has also stated that stickers stating “No Smoking” must also be displayed prominently inside all the public transport vehicles. WHO has sponsored that World No Tobacco Day to be observed on 31st May with the main aim for reducing the consumption of tobacco.
