Today I am going to give you a short introduction of an island in the Pacific Ocean. The Kiribati Island which is extremely exposed to the climate change.

Recently it has come to the news that the government of this place is going to purchase a land of another country or region to form a refuge for the natives.

The President Anote Tong has recently made a final decision to purchase a land of 20 square kilometers on Vanua Levu which is one of the Fiji Islands. This place is 2000 kilometers away from Kiribati.

According to a news report, the Church of England has sold a stretch of land to the Kiribati government.

The dense forest covered region has been sold for $8.77 million. Tong has told the news channels that he does not want to put all people on this small land unless it is necessary to do so.

It is to be noted in this regard that the population of Kiribati is 110,000 who are scattered over 33 small low-lying islands extending over 3.5 million square kilometers.

Therefore the accommodation of that huge people in the small purchased land is very difficult. However purchasing such land is not new in the recent history.

In 2009, the Maldives purchased a land of another country supposing that the land was becoming submerged. The government of Maldives was looking for a land of India and Sri Lanka.

Victims Of Climate Change:

After Maldives, Kiribati is going to take such action of purchasing the land of a foreign country. According to the report the islands of the Ocean are becoming prone to be submerged due to adverse effect of the climate change.

The report says that the small islands on the Pacific Ocean like Kiribati and Tuvalu have apparent financial impact of the climate change.

The necessary measures to be taken to protect the islands from the climate change need lots of money which is more than that of the national income.

It has been seen that instead of taking other actions, purchasing of the foreign lands is more convenient for the places where sea level is rising with quickly than that of the rest of the world. That is why Kiribati is going to get a place to for a shelter for its citizens.
